NEW DPSCS SECRETARY MEETS WITH CHAPTER LEADERS In a wide-ranging discussion meeting of almost two hours with representatives of the Maryland Classified Employees Association MCEA) Public Safety Non-Custody Employees Chapter, Maryland Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services (DPSCS) Acting Secretary Gary D. Maynard explored mutual concerns to make improvements that would benefit public safety, prison employees, and inmates. Acting Secretary Maynard, arriving without an entourage of any sort, met privately during the afternoon of Monday, February 12th, 2007, at the Hagerstown Regional Division of Correction office in an informal but productive exchange of ideas with MCEA Chapter President Larry D. Kump, Roxbury Correctional Institution (RCI) Case Manager; ChapterVice President Ward Clem, Maryland Correctional Institution (MCI) Psychology Associate; and Past Chapter Vice President Tom Nittinger, Maryland Correctional Training Center (MCTC) Case Management Supervisor. According to Chapter President Kump, the MCEA chapter leaders are "tremendously impressed with the new DPSCS leader, and are looking forward to working with him in support of good governance". Acting Secretary Maynard expressed similar sentiments and that he "enjoyed" the meeting and "look(s) forward to working with (them)". He also endorsed HB 402, our chapter's legislation to bring correctional case managers into the twenty year correctional officers retirement plan.
